Very soon you could see one of your photos here!
We are introducing to our site a new, interactive feature called the
"Photo of the Fortnight" for presenting images and enabling the entire club
to provide feedback.
The premise is this (pardon the wordiness):
There are members of NCC who would like more feedback on their work so
that they can learn from both the reactions of their peers and the guidance
of experienced shooters in the club. The best competition judges provide
feedback, but it is often at a very high level and at best represents a
single opinion, even if it is an experienced one. We can learn from active
review and commentary on images whether they
are our own or others'. By examining thoughtfully what works in images, we
can better inform our own shooting, not through copycat reproduction, but by
continuing engagement in both the art and the craft of photography.
Here's how it works:
- A new image is posted every two weeks.
- During that week, anyone and everyone can provide comments on the
- We will collect and post the messages after two weeks
- A new image gets posted. Thus there is always at least one image up
for review, and recent images will still be there along with their
comments. If there's enough interest, we may increase the number of
images displayed at one time.
You can submit images in one of two ways:
- Submit your slides or negatives in person to Marshall Goff or Jeff
Mather at club meetings. We will scan them and make minor adjustments to
your taste if your image is selected.
- E-mail your image to submissions@newtoncameraclub.org.
You can submit as many images as you like and at any time; we'll keep
them all around and use them as a library of images from which to select,
so if you don't see your image right away, it doesn't mean anything. We
won't hold onto your slides indefinitely; those get scanned and
returned.
The selection criteria is really open:
- We won't be choosing images because they are "the best." We'll be
selecting images based on our ability to generate interesting discussion,
and to include different subject matter and many photographers.
- Images can be captured with film or digital cameras. Manipulation
beyond normal darkroom-type work should be disclosed. (There's no
problem with digitally manipulated images, but we would want to be able to
discuss the manipulation as part of the critique.)
What you should do:
- First things first - send us images!
- Vist the Photo of the Fortnight
section of the web site, look at the images, and send in your
thoughts!
Disclaimers:
- For space reasons, we won't promise to post every comment in its
entirety, but we will make sure that all feedback is provided to the
photographer.
- We will mark all images with a copyright notice on behalf of the
photographer, but we cannot guarantee that they cannot be lifted from
the web site.

them with us.
