Every year, dues-paying NCC members showcase their best work in this month-long show at the Newton Free Library. Unlike prior years, submitted images will be reviewed and filtered for technical quality (i.e., pixelation, noise, etc.) and to ensure the subject meets the family-friendly guidelines of the City of Newton.
While we hope there is room for one print for each member, realistically, the space allows for approximately thirty 16”x20” framed images. If there is not enough exhibit space for every submission, we will have a randomized lottery to select participants.
Whether or not you were selected in the lottery to show a print, all submitted images will automatically be a part of an online gallery for everyone to enjoy. If you do not want to participate in the online gallery, you may opt out on the submission form. The image you submit for consideration will be used for the online gallery. Note that to participate in the show, you must complete the submission form AND upload your image to Dropbox.
Please review the information below carefully. If you have any concerns about your image or frame meeting the standards below, consult with us in advance by emailing info@newtoncameraclub.org. If a print is delivered at the hanging that is not the expected image or presents other hanging problems, the image will almost certainly not be hung.
Guidelines
FRAMING GUIDELINES
Sturdiness: Your frame must be sturdy. If the frame is not sturdy, your image will not be hung. The test for sturdiness? Lift your framed image from the top center rail of your frame and “bounce” it up and down. The top rail should not bow.
Wired: Your frame must have a wire across the back. We cannot accept sawtooth hangers. If the wire is not attached to proper, fixed attachment points, your image will not be hung. The spring clips that hold the backing in back-loading frames are NOT proper attachment points.
Size Requirements: Maximum framed size is 16" x 20" or visually equivalent for other aspect ratios. Your frame may not exceed 20” in the longest dimension and 16” in the shorter dimension. Please make sure your frame is the size you indicated in the filename.
Framing/Presentation: Matted photographs must be presented in a black wooden or metal frame with a white/off-white mat. Images on canvas, metal, or acrylic must be no larger than 16x20 and wired as indicated above.
Glazing: Protect your images. Using glass or plexiglas to protect your print is highly recommended but not mandatory. Do not use plastic sheeting.
Labels: Put your name, title and the price (or NFS…not for sale) on a label on the back of your frame. If your frame has plexiglass, add “P” to the label so we don’t clean it with Windex.
Rules
You must be a paid up for 2025-2026 member to participate. Please pay your dues as early as possible, but no later than the day of the hanging.
