For the last few years my photography studio has been traveling periodically to africa to photograph every country in africa.
This is not the typical tourist image of africa but an indepth document of the contemporary continent. Western media has exploited africa with only news about poverty & pestilence & conflict as a way of continually subjugating. Africa is huge & we are investigating country by country & spending an extensive period of time in each place. Rather than the anachronistic misinformation of western media, we are striving to utilize research & expertise & guidance of local peoples & institutions.
To illuminate much of its progress, we photograph
industry
politics
health care
music
education
sports
culture both traditional & modern
Africa has the most cutural diversity of any continent. It has some of the most emerging economies & for centuries some of the largest natural resources. The images are unique & beautiful & complex. To date, we have published two volumes of the panAFRICAproject book & exhibited extensively. I will talk about how we have approached this overly ambitious photoessay, changed the dynamic of photojournalism, funded most of the project. Also I'll reveal how we have enlisted local institutions & companies to help us & give us access, what kind of equipment & lighting we use & logistics.
