This talk will be about the fulfilling connection of making street portraits with strangers. I will focus on methods of street photography, including how to approach and engage subjects, how to appraise the best available light, and what it means to capture the face of a stranger. I will share some of the stories of working on the 8,000 Faces project, how I deal with rejection, taking a bad photo (and a great one!) and the importance of bringing your best self to your work.
I will discuss the necessity of understanding how to photograph and process photos of a variety of people with a wide range of skin tones and the importance of shooting in a way that brings out the best in everyone.
Finally, I will contrast my portrait photography with the output of generative A.I. systems, with a goal of keeping inspired in an age when some people are turning to A.I. generated output to create “headshots” and “artwork."
