Soren Goldsmith

Soren Goldsmith is a photo engineer and National Geographic Explorer who builds custom cameras to reveal unseen natural worlds. From Massachusetts’ salt marshes to urban forests, he designs imaging tools that capture wildlife and ecosystems in ways traditional gear can’t. His current focus is underwater motion activated cameras that document skittish underwater wildlife.

Since receiving a Massachusetts Audubon grant in 2021, Goldsmith has helped communities and policymakers connect with overlooked ecosystems through immersive visual storytelling. In 2023, he was named a winner of the National Geographic Slingshot Challenge for his work documenting a forest on the brink of destruction.

Goldsmith is studying geological engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he merges field science, environmental storytelling, and camera innovation. He envisions a future where engineering and imagery come together to inspire action and deepen our relationship with the natural world.
