Stairways, natural and man-made, are paths up and down. They offer a wealth of opportunities for photographs. Think of overall geometry, point of view, lighting, detail. This is meant to be more than just who can travel to the most exotic location. The stairs are just the starting point. Can you tell a story or set a mood? Think about different compositional techniques that will make the stairs be the focal point of the image.  Photos will be judged on creativity, effective lighting, and overall impact of the image.

Judge: Larry Dunn

Larry’s fascination with photography started over 50 years ago in his father’s small darkroom that was tucked under the basement stairs. His work has won many awards at international, national and local exhibits. His photographs have been published and exhibited in the United States and Internationally.


Besides being an active member of the Marblehead Arts Association where he exhibits frequently as well as serving on the Art Committee, he is also active with the Swampscott Arts Association, the Greater Lynn Photographic Association, the Photographic Society of America and the New England Camera Club Conference and the Marblehead Festival of Arts.


Recently retired, Larry has a degree in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has spent 30+ years in retail sales. He has owned his own business for 10 and has managed and been a buyer in the Outdoor and Ski Industries for the remainder. 


Beside his passion for photography, he and his wife love to travel, cycle, kayak, ski, snow shoe and spend time with their granddaughter and grandson.
