Texture in photography is about conveying the tactile quality of a subject or how it might feel to the touch the surface. Through the visual language of light, shadow, and detail, texture can be revealed in many forms, from the rough ridges of weathered wood to the silky smoothness of a glass surface. Texture can be found in both natural and man-made subjects, and it may appear subtle or dramatic, repeating or irregular. For this competition, we invite images where texture is the primary subject, inviting the viewer to connect not only with what they see, but also with what they imagine they could feel.

Read what our judge, Lee Varis, has to say about texture photos in his blog post, What Makes a Good Texture Photo?
